Gregory Forstner est né à Douala au Cameroun, d’une mère française et d’un père autrichien. Il interrompt ses études secondaires et décide d’étudier à l’académie des arts appliqués de Vienne en Autriche, puis à la Villa Arson à Nice. Il travaille ensuite à Nice pendant plusieurs années.
En 2008, lauréat d’une bourse du ministère de la culture française pour une résidence d’un an à New York. Il s’y est installé avec sa famille.

 

Son travail a fait l’objet d’une exposition personnelle au Musée de Grenoble en 2009 ; montré en 2013 à La Fondation Maeght à Saint-Paul-de-Vence pendant l'exposition E-Motion - Collection de Bernard Massini ; il est représenté dans les collections du Musée d’Art Moderne de la ville de Paris (ARC), Le Musée de Grenoble, le Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain de Nice (MAMAC), le FNAC (Fond National d’Art Contemporain), le FRAC (Fond Régional d’Art Contemporain) Haute Normandie, le FRAC Basse Normandie, le FRAC Alsace, la collection SACEM, la Fondation Claudine et Jean-Marc Salomon à Annecy, la Fondation Bernard Massini à Nice, Richard Massey Foundation à New York, et Sammlung Goetz à Munich.

BORN IN 1975, LIVES AND WORKS IN NEW YORK

 

Gregory Forstner was born in Douala, Cameroon, of a French mother and an Austrian father. He quit high school to go study at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, then at the Villa Arson in Nice; a city where he worked for several years afterwards. In 2008, he was the winner of a one-year residency in New York City, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture. He now lives and works in NYC with his family.

 

In 2009, Gregory Forstner had a solo show at the Museum of Grenoble. In 2013 his work was featured in "E-Motion - Collection Bernard Massini" at Foundation Maeght in St Paul de Vence. He is represented in the collections of the Musée d’Art Moderne of the city of Paris (ARC), the Museum of Grenoble, the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain of Nice (MAMAC), the FNAC (Fond National d’Art Contemporain), the FRAC (Fond Régional d’Art Contemporain) Haute Normandie, the FRAC Basse Normandie, the FRAC Alsace, the SACEM collection, the Claudine et Jean-Marc Salomon Foundation in Annecy, the Bernard Massini Foundation in Nice, the Richard Massey Foundation in New York City, and Sammlung Goetz in Munich.
